The Nature Project
North Valley Forge has built a reputation for more than 30 years bringing ambitious and unique ideas to life through artistic collaboration and expert craftsmanship. Projects begin with customer ideas which we use to draft sketches and fabricate to create unique ironwork.
This project consisted of a nature inspired wrought iron electric gate with matching railings. It is designed with laser-cut animal shapes that showcases our ability to use technology with traditional forge work. Creating a piece that feels timeless.
Project Overview
Our client came to us with a concept in mind: to create ironwork that reflected the beauty of nature, adding wildlife and natural surroundings. The final design needed to feel strong and distinctive, blending our blacksmiths’ creativity with fabrication.
Each panel of the railings features curved bars that flow together to evoke movement and grace found in nature. The final instalment enhances surroundings but also narrates a story with a handmade element.
Design and Fabrication
The process of fabrication for the gate and railings is a collaboration of our CAD designing team and our blacksmith. Our blacksmith began by creating the framed panel, and making the central wavy bars by hand – shaping and bending each individual piece to flow within the panel. Up to ten bars are fitted into each section of the gate or railing depending on the size of the panel, ensuring that each curve aligns with the other to replicate the customer’s concept.
One of the distinctive features of this project is the hand forged bulrushes, which are complimented by textured angle iron that resemble blades of grass. These not only are to add to design but also act as an infill for the gaps in the panel as a safety measure. These details bring the ironwork to life, adding movement, depth and connection to the nature theme.
This demonstrates beautifully how traditional blacksmithing techniques coexist with tools such as laser cutting, as a result it crafts a piece that is handcrafted, expressive and detailed.
Installation
Installation is a high priority at North Valley Forge, as it is an essential part of the process that ensures our craft and fabrication performs as smoothly as it looks. Our experienced team approaches every installation with a focus on safety measure, accuracy and our customers are happy with the final result.
For the nature project due to the gates being electric, we worked closely with our client when it came to the installation phase to make sure each panel was aligned smoothly and that each piece met the requirements. Before the install is complete our technicians carry out safety tests and checks on our automated gate so not only they meet our standards but also make sure they perform well for our customers for years to come.
This project stands as a celebration of our bespoke ironwork, a piece that perfectly shows a balance between art and engineering. From its flowing form to its forged details. It reflects skills that define each job we do at North Valley Forge.
