At North Valley Forge, we’ve spent more than 30 years helping homeowners and businesses across the UK transform their properties with beautifully made wrought iron gates and railings. From day one, our focus has been on creating products that look impressive while standing the test of time, and one finish that consistently proves its worth is powder coating. Whether you’re upgrading a driveway entrance or refreshing a boundary, powder coating gives your property a cleaner look that holds its colour and strength through every season. Let’s take a look at the process and explore the benefits of powder coating!
What is powder coating?
Powder coating is a dry finishing process used on metalwork to create a strong, even, and protective layer. Instead of liquid paint, a fine powder is applied electrostatically to the surface of the metal. This powder is made of resin, pigment and additives, and when baked, it melts and creates a smooth, hardened skin over the surface of your gates and railings.
What are the benefits of powder coating?
The real appeal of powder coating lies in how it performs once installed outside. British weather can be unpredictable at the best of times, and entrances take the full force of rain, frost, and sun throughout the year. Powder coating provides strong protection against corrosion, sealing the surface and reducing the risk of rust. At the same time, it’s also resistant to chipping, fading and scratching, making it an ideal solution for high-use areas like driveway gates.
Another advantage is the consistency of the finish. Because the coating is applied as a dry powder and cured evenly, it creates a smooth and uniform appearance without brush marks, streaks or uneven coverage. This gives your gates and railings a polished, professional look that stays flawless year after year with very little maintenance.
Our powder-coating process
At North Valley Forge, we’re proud to be one of the UK’s leading wrought iron electric gate and railing manufacturing companies, creating bespoke entrances that combine traditional craftsmanship with modern engineering. As part of our standard finishing process, we powder coat all of our ironwork, working closely with our sister company, North Valley Powder Coating. This involves using cutting-edge equipment and a team of experienced specialists to deliver a premium finish on every project. With one of the largest ovens in Lancashire, we’re able to accommodate even substantial gates and railings, ensuring a consistent and professional coating across each component.
By default, our gates and railings are finished in either classic black or anthracite grey, both of which are popular for their timeless look and versatility. However, we also offer a wide choice of RAL colours, giving you the flexibility to match your entrance to your property’s unique style. When combined with hot-dip galvanisation, our powder-coated gates and railings are equally strong and stylish, and will continue to perform and maintain their appearance for decades to come.
