Are wrought iron gates customisable?

But if you’re looking for a specific kind of gate and you can’t find it, don’t worry – we’ve got the expertise and equipment in house to make your vision a reality, encompassing everything from the framework to detailed scrollwork. And of course, you can consider various design aspects, such as gate height, width, finish, and additional features like decorative motifs or integrated lighting. Ultimately, besides your budget, the only limit is your imagination!
Do wrought iron gates require maintenance?
All of the wrought iron gates we supply are powder coated and galvanised as standard, so they’ll require very little maintenance. However, they’ll still benefit from a quick maintenance session a few times a year to prevent rust and deterioration.
Basic cleaning generally includes washing the gate with mild soap and water to remove dirt and grime that can accumulate over time. It’s also a good idea to give it a once-over every few months for any signs of wear, such as scratches or chips in the paint, which could expose the metal to moisture and lead to rust. Lubricating the hinges and other moving parts also goes a long way to maintaining smooth operation and prevent squeaking or sticking.
How long do wrought iron gates last?
The lifespan of wrought iron gates can vary depending on several factors, including environmental conditions and the intensity of their use (such as the number of daily cycles). Generally though, with proper care and maintenance, most wrought iron gates can last for several decades, and it’s not unusual for them to last for more than 30 or 40 years.
Harsher weather conditions (like heavy rain, snow, or intense sunlight) can cause greater levels of wear and tear on your gate over time, so if you live in an area that regularly sees harsher weather conditions (such as near the sea), it’s wise to step up your maintenance schedule accordingly. Similarly, gates that are opened and closed multiple times a day may experience more wear and tear compared to those that are used less frequently, so don’t hesitate to check on them often.
Can I install a wrought iron gate myself?
While it is possible for experienced DIY enthusiasts to install a wrought iron gate themselves, we’d generally recommend hiring a professional installer, especially for larger or more complex gates.
The installation process can be quite involved, requiring precise measurements, alignment, and the appropriate tools. If not done correctly, in the best case scenario you could end up with a gate that doesn’t function properly, which could lead to issues such as misalignment, difficulty opening or closing, or increased wear on the gate and hinges. In the worst case scenario, you could end up with a gate that’s actively dangerous – especially if it’s been poorly secured.
